Dr. Askari is an Assistant Professor of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, the Residency/Fellowship Site Director at the Veterans' Affairs Medical Center (VAMC), and the Medical Director of Blood Bank/Transfusion Service. Dr. Askari received her medical degree from Aga Khan University, Karachi, Pakistan (1994) and completed an internship in medicine and Surgery at Aga Khan Hospital (1995), a residency in Anatomic & Clinical Pathology at the University of Minnesota (2002), a Fellowship in Transfusion Medicine/Blood Banking at University of Minnesota ('00-'01), and a Fellowship in Surgical Pathology at University of Minnesota ('02-'03). She is certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic & Clinical pathology (2002), and Transfusion Medicine/Blood banking (2003). She trains and supervises residents on their Anatomic Pathology and Blood Bank rotations at VAMC. Dr. Askari has written on several Transfusion Medicine and Surgical Pathology topics including platelet dosage, transfusion-related acute lung injury, cord blood banking, Barrett's Esophagus, and Process Improvement in Laboratory Services; and has also co-authored book chapters on cord blood banking. She was awarded American Red Cross Transfusion Medicine Research Award by Minnesota Medical Foundation (2002).
